Technical staff

John Hibbert

John qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1986. Since working as a tax consultant to a public company, John has spent most of his career giving taxation advice to owner-managed businesses.

Now, with expertise in all aspects of UK taxation, his extensive know-how works hand-in-hand with sheer determination to deliver the best possible results for our clients in tax investigations at all levels.

Terri Bruce

Terri joined Customs & Excise from University in 1991. Having spent 10 years with leading accountancy firms in Birmingham, she joined us in May 2003.

Qualified as a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation since 1997, she enjoys working with a wide variety of businesses on an even wider variety of VAT issues. Surprising though it might seem, VAT is often more an art than a science, and Terri brings an ability to think outside of the box.

Terri is also a member of the VAT Practitioners Group.

Alan Long

Alan is a tax prosecution expert. During his many years as a Senior Inspector with HMRC, Alan has done everything from dawn raids through to giving evidence. Alan's impressive track record includes co-ordinating the largest raid ever undertaken by the Inland Revenue, and taking the stand at the Old Bailey.

Alan's extensive knowledge of HMRC powers and procedures adds an extra dimension to lawyers and accountants defending serious investigations.

Steve Parnham

Steve is a Chartered Tax Adviser and our specialist consultant in private client taxation.

Since 1980, Steve has been providing his clients with bespoke money saving solutions in the areas of capital gains tax, inheritance tax and succession planning.

Steve is single minded in delivering results that really count. However, he considers that building long term client relationships and being seen as a trusted advisor, is just as important as the knowledge and creativity needed to construct and deliver these solutions.

Denis Holly

Denis joined us from a spell in Kenya as Director of Indirect Taxes for Pricewaterhouse Coopers in Central Africa. He has over 25 years' experience working with blue chip companies, major banks, accountants, local authorities and the public sector.

Denis is something of a rarity in our profession in that he is a fully trained Inspector of Taxes who also has wide experience of VAT matters. Our clients benefit from this all-round expertise.

Jim Pringle

Another of our former Senior Inspector of Taxes, Jim has worked as a Group Leader in Enquiry Branch and also as a District Inspector.

He brings to our armoury of experts a broad experience of many business and personal tax issues. He has particular strengths in the application of IR35 and giving advice on contract wording and arrangements.

Peter Fry

Peter is a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians and assists Steve Parnham with our Private client work.

With over 25 years of tax experience Peter has covered most issues and enjoys advising clients with practical solutions. Having been brought up in the country Peter has considerable knowledge of the taxation issues relating to the farming and rural community at large.

Peter feels that relationships matter. Without a trusted and relaxed relationship it is harder to produce the best of creative solutions.
