BRC

BRC is the UK's largest supplier of steel products for use in concrete construction. It also has activities in Singapore and, through joint ventures, in Ireland and in parts of China.

UK activities

BRC is engaged in the design, distribution, marketing and manufacture of a wide range of concrete reinforcement and related products including:

  • re-bar
  • steel mesh
  • specialty products

Growth

In recent years BRC have benefited from increased publicly funded expenditure on public buildings including schools and hospitals; increased expenditure on infrastructure projects including water and sewerage, sports stadia and energy related projects; and increased expenditure on private commercial and office projects

Other countries

In Ireland, Acertec has a 50% interest in BRC McMahon, the remaining 50% being held by James McMahon Limited. BRC McMahon manufactures welded mesh for the local market and has been particularly successful over the past five years, benefiting from the buoyant construction market in Ireland. A certain amount of re-bar and mesh is also supplied to Ireland from the division's UK operations.

BRC accesses markets in Singapore and China through its 73.3% stake in BRC Asia Limited, a company listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange. BRC Asia is the market leader in mesh and pre-fabricated reinforcement in Singapore.

BRC Asia also has a joint venture with a major Chinese steel mill, Magang Industry Development Company Limited which operates in certain provinces in eastern China. Acertec's presence in the Far East allows it a first hand understanding of the Chinese market, one of the major drivers of global steel prices.
