The Leeds office covers Yorkshire and the North East and we recruit Newly Qualified into all sizes of firms ranging from high street practices up to Big 6 law firms. The city of Leeds is the largest legal centre in the UK outside of London with more than 150 law firms. Secondly only to London for fees generated and number of lawyers the city is dominated by the 'big six' law firms - Eversheds, Pinsent Masons, Addleshaw Goddard, DLA Piper, Hammonds and Walker Morris. Sheffield, Newcastle and York also have a number of highly regarded regional firms and together this leads to a highly competitive market place.
Finding a role in Leeds
Firms will look to retain their own trainees in the first instances; however there will be roles in disciplines which may find it hard to attract internal trainees and the competitive nature of many firms to ‘attract the best candidates’ means that opportunities will exist for strong candidates.
The In-house market also provides opportunities within a range of industries including financial services and business services.
Law firms are looking for strong academics and generally the candidate must have completed at least one seat in the area they want to qualify into throughout their training contract.
Practising in Yorkshire or the North East can offer a great variety of work and all areas of Law are well represented. Cities in Yorkshire and the North East boast spectacular shopping and superb cultural characteristics. Surrounding areas embrace thriving communities and a number of market towns and therefore escape from the 'hustle and bustle' (if required!) is not far away.
