The Liverpool office covers the geographical areas of Greater Merseyside, Chester and North Wales. The excellent firms in the area, coupled with the fact that Liverpool was the European Capital of Culture in 2008 provides exceptional opportunities for NQs looking to build a career as the legacy continues.
The Liverpool market was traditionally divided in two – a tier of leading commercial firms including Brabners, DLA, DWF and Halliwells, and a tier of leading insurance practices namely Weightmans, Berrymans and Hill Dickinson. This distinction is changing as the insurance firms build and develop their commercial service offerings.
The immediate effect of the investment pumped into the area to build the infrastructure for 2008 dramatically increased the demand for NQ talent and moving into 2009 the demand in the areas of Insurance Litigation, Commercial Litigation and Employment remains high.
The salary gap between Liverpool and Manchester has narrowed substantially at the NQ level and the city’s renaissance means that firms are increasingly attracting lawyers from London, drawn to the city by both the quality of work on offer and the quality of life the area can guarantee. Furthermore NQ’s returning to the area (be it through family ties or previous study at the Chester College of Law) are much sought after and the opportunities for NQs to enter a good firm with exceptional caseloads and career progression have never been better and is perhaps more of a reality than in other major UK cities.
