The Accounting Offshore Market: Practice firms and the Big 4

The leading accounting firms have a high profile in all of the major Offshore jurisdictions, providing audit and advisory services to local businesses, the Offshore divisions of multinational companies and the specialist legal, fiduciary services and insurance companies that are domiciled Offshore.

The Offshore market is dominated by financial and fiduciary services and as these markets continue to expand, there are exceptional opportunities for high calibre, English-speaking practice professionals in all jurisdictions.

The market is lead by the ‘Big 4’ accounting firms, although many medium sized firms are expanding their Offshore networks, in response to the continuing growth in the Offshore market.

Audit, Advisory and Corporate Tax assignments are all hugely varied in nature, and the wide assortment of clients, both local and International, ensures that the work is both broad and challenging.

Opportunities abound at newly/recently-qualified level, as well as at Manager and Assistant Manager level. Whilst previous experience of financial services is a major benefit, this is not a pre-requisite in all markets.

Lifestyle

The culture in the Offshore accounting firms is ‘work hard, play hard’ with a strong team dynamic. Staff levels are typically lower than you would find in leading cities, with most operations employing between 40 and 200 people.

The salaries on offer are very competitive and all jurisdictions enjoy favourable tax status, with income tax rates ranging from zero to 20%.

Demand Areas

Whilst some of the recruitment into this market is cyclical, driven by the ‘busy season’ at the start of each calendar year, most of the firms that we recruit for are always interested in hiring high calibre, experienced practitioners.

Current ‘hot spots’ include the Caribbean and Bermuda, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. We are also seeing demand increase in Cyprus and the Antilles, although fluency in Greek and Dutch, respectively, is often required in these jurisdictions.
