Holiday, illness and overtime

As a temp you are entitled to 4.8 weeks paid holiday per year, rising to 5.6 weeks on 1 April 2009. Some employers pay this as part of your hourly rate, while others prefer to pay it when you take time off; make sure you’re clear which policy your employer has opted for. Bank holidays are deducted from your entitlement and any days not used up before the end of the year will be forfeited.

If you’re an agency worker, you have the right to Maternity or Paternity Pay, but not Maternity or Paternity Leave. You can get Statutory Sick Pay if you’ve worked for the same agency for more than three months. If you are ill on the day of an assignment please inform your Consultant before 8.30am.
Some clients pay overtime and some don’t; always check whether you are eligible for an enhanced rate. Weekend work may be paid at a higher rate and you will receive details of this in your confirmation letter. For more information on your rights, go to the Directgov website.
