Accounting jobs in Energy

2009 will see a shift in the landscape across the Energy Sector. The Economic Slowdown has brought with it two different problems for the sector- falling oil prices and a shortage of credit. As the major players are taking stock of their situation and eyeing up potential opportunities to acquire assets at a cut-price, smaller production and exploration companies will struggle with the lack of available credit.

It is likely that as the year progresses we will see an increase in M&A activity, as businesses take advantage of changes in the competitive marketplace. It is still seen by many candidates as an attractive sector to join and at the Newly-Qualified level it remains one of the most popular choices.

High quality, industry-experienced candidates are still very difficult to attract and companies are having to pay a premium or come up with very visible career paths to secure the best people for their businesses.
