Accounting jobs in Manufacturing

Britain’s manufacturing sector is being realistic about its prospects for 2009, forecasting a continuing decline in revenue. 2008 saw many British manufacturers struggling and this situation is unlikely to reverse in the short-term.

The main challenge continues to come from China and, to a lesser extent, from the other emerging Asian economies, Eastern Europe and Latin America, which are able to produce goods much more cheaply than the UK due to lower labour costs.

The other factor affecting smaller manufacturers is the banking issue of restricted lending. This is causing a knock on affect to British manufacturing, affecting their capacity for growth and in some cases, survival.

It’s not all bad news, however, with budget food manufacturers and public sector suppliers reporting strong trading. Opportunities do exist within the industry; Qualified candidates with Standard Costing skills, for example, are still very much in demand.
