Paralegal market shows promise

The Paralegal market has shown a promising increase in activity since May this year. Many Private Practice firms, previously operating under recruitment freezes, have since lifted their bans and we are seeing an increase in the number of both Temporary and Contract positions available.

The market remains competitive for candidates because trainees with deferred contracts are also applying for the same Paralegal positions. The highest levels of activity in the Paralegal market can currently be seen in Commercial Litigation as well as IP. The Corporate and Real Estate markets continue to remain relatively stagnant.

Within Industry and Commerce there are a greater number of Permanent roles available for experienced Contract Managers. This is due to the increased availability of highly experienced candidates and those candidates being more flexible in terms of remuneration than in previous years. Another contributing factor is the need for most organisations to reduce their legal costs.

In summary, the market is beginning to show signs of a recovery, with the majority of our clients predicting an increase in recruitment for the remainder of 2009 and well into 2010.
