Compliance market update

Recruitment trends and skills in demand – half year market update 2011

  • Hiring is strong, and the volume of ongoing vacancies is high. Predictably then, good candidates are in demand and competition for them is strong;
  • In small to medium sized financial organisations, particular skills in demand include generalists and heads of compliance, and in the major firms, product/advisory, monitoring, AML, policy, control room, project managers and business analysts;
  • Movers are achieving good rises in salary, driven by competition internally and externally, and those with specialist skills are particularly well rewarded. Clients are paying a particular premium for high risk moves e.g. roles within emerging markets and AML;
  • One significant challenge thrown up by this trend is the fact that hiring managers' own salaries are being impinged by recruitment exercises;
  • There has been a significant increase in the compliance projects space and therefore requirements for contract business analysts, project and programme managers.
