Margins slip as Palletways pushes ahead with expansion

Investment in continental expansion meant that margins slipped slightly at Palletways. The pallet network recorded a seven per cent growth in sales to £157.9m for the year to 31st May 2011 while EBITA was £6.4m compared to £6.8m in 2010.
Susan Hundleby, group finance director, said the profit figure was in line with expectation and reflected the group’s strategic investment in the German domestic operations and the pan-European network. “Our established businesses showed significant profit growth during the year.”
Culina Fresh opens new facilities

Culina Fresh, the FMCG logistics firm has opened its first two dedicated UK facilities at Spalding and Heathrow.
The Spalding facility in Lincolnshire offers a temperature controlled consolidation service dedicated to fresh produce and horticultural products. It is the first Culina Group depot in this part of the country, and offers local customers access to the group’s complete range of warehousing, distribution and value-added services.

Kewill for Currie

Currie European Transport has signed a multi-year agreement to implement the Kewill Transport system, in order to allow to better planning, and to manage full loads, part loads and groupage as their business expands.
The Kewill Transport solution will be utilised throughout Currie European’s entire multi-country operations, which Kewill’s Managed Services will deliver as a hosted solution across the UK, the Netherlands and France.

Multi-channel retailer renews DHL contract

Munich-based multi-channel retailer HSE24 has renewed its contract with DHL.
DHL will become HSE24's sole logistics partner in mid-2013 and also take over providing warehousing for products that were outsourced to a competitor in 2010.

Supply chain boost for aerospace supplier

Aerospace component manufacturer Aircelle Maroc has become the first Moroccan company to achieve Oliver Wight class A accreditation.
Since implementing the Oliver Wight Class A programme, service levels at Aircelle Maroc have improved a minimum of 98 per cent, having previously fluctuated between 70 per cent and 80 per cent.
