Job Description

as the 3rd line infrastructure engineer your key responsibilities will be:

  • Provide technical escalation & overflow to 1st & 2nd line support for group hardware and software;
  • Support in-house systems and applications to ensuring running optimally and delivering performance for the rest of the business
  • Responsive to stakeholder needs across the business
  • Providing support to non-technical IT employees
  • Demonstrating systems and being able to take a stakeholder though improvements that are being made in a non-technical way;
  • Following project and briefings as specified, if appropriate suggest alternative courses of actions, ultimately following an agreed plan/brief;
  • Flexibility to take on varied tasks over a number of projects;
  • Ensuring problems or blockers are raised to the line manager promptly;
  • Collaborate with the wider Infrastructure team within the UK, Europe and beyond to ensure that the group benefits from a consolidated connected infrastructure.
  • Manage IT security and work collaboratively with group on ensuring IT security is up to date, relevant and conforms to best practice

The Successful Applicant

As the 3rd line infrastructure engineer you will have personal skills and key competencies in the following:

    • Patient and good with people;
    • Good written and verbal communication skills;
    • Ability to troubleshoot multifaceted problems in a systematic manner;
    • A person who enjoys learning new things and solving problems;
    • Ability to work without supervision using own initiative;
    • Able to explain technical problems in a simple way
    • Administering Windows desktop and server environments;
    • Supporting PCs and peripherals;
    • Network (Cisco) administration, maintenance and solution design.

You will also need to show specific technical experience in the following:

  • Windows Server 2012 / R2
  • Microsoft System Centre
  • Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8 in a business environment
  • Office 2007 / 2010 / 2013
  • Amazon Web Services
  • Office 365
  • Active Directory account management
  • Group Policy
  • IPv4 and Ethernet based networks (wired and wireless)
  • Printers and peripherals
  • Backup and disaster recovery procedures
  • Update management
  • Business anti-malware software
  • Telephony
  • Software licensing compliance
  • PowerShell scripting
  • IIS 7/7.5/8/8.5 and SSL certificate management
  • Virtualisation - ideally Hyper-V Server 2012 R2
  • Full driving license and own transport
