Job Description

Principle Accountabilities;

Oversee and develop month end accounting including

  • Month end review of journals and underlying workings prepared by an Accounting Technician
  • Regular review and challenge of underlying models used to calculate postings to ledger
  • Liaison with external audit
  • Supporting end customers within this SME business including Decision Support, Reporting and business areas. Regular engagement and ad hoc support required.
  • Cover for preparation of journals due to holidays or sickness
  • Ensuring full compliance with appropriate Bank policies
  • Balance sheet review and substantiation
  • Review and challenge of process documentation
  • Project support

The role will have overall responsibility for financial control activities for several products or services, ensuring internal customers are fully engaged and that our services meet their requirements efficiently and timeously.

Develop, review & implement any process improvements. As a result of a change in General Ledger and related source systems all processes will need to be reviewed and adapted. This will vary from minor changes such as revised end journal to potentially, complete re-design of a process. The post holder will be responsible for organising and implementing the processes under their control.

Substantiate the balance sheet for any assigned account lines. Review the related reconciliations prepared by Accounting Technicians.

Line management or supervision of the daily workload of one or two Accounting Technicians including workload planning and direction, issue resolution, personal development and performance management.

The Successful Applicant

In addition the following skills are required:-

  • Part qualified, qualified or studying towards a relevant qualification
  • Some people management capability preferred
  • Activities include month end accounting within Finance Operations, Financial Control or similar environment.

  • Technical Expertise
  • Preparation and review of monthly accounting journals
  • Very good Excel skills essential
  • Knowledge of purpose and appropriateness of controls
  • Preparation/Review of balance sheet reconciliations
