Job Description

The role of the Bid Manager includes the following remit:

  • Contribute to the development of process and tools for the preparation of offers
  • Responsibility for producing fit for purpose PQQ's (pre-qualification questionnaires), proposals and associated collateral to time / cost / quality for specifically assigned offers Ensure due diligence is applied in the bidding process
  • Assist and advise Business Leaders, Business Managers, Project Managers on the offers that are being prepared in their individual Business Areas
  • Objectively appraise offers / bid submissions from the Business Areas and to add and edit information as necessary in order to structure an effective response
  • Provide support to individuals undertaking bid management or pro-actively interact / collaborates with Project / Bid team (including partner, supplier, customer and other stakeholders) to lead all aspects of bid management as required (this could include - carrying out bid kick off meeting; agree and manage bid timetable; production of a bid template response; completion of commercial sections of tender, incorporating sections from Business Areas as required; ensuring all sections of proposal comply with the customer requirements; ensure the price and offer have been approved in line with delegated authorities; responsibility for issuing the proposal)
  • Provide technical and commercial writing skills in produced / reviewed offers
  • Provide sales funnel advice / guidance
  • Contribute relevant ideas for developing bid submissions to the company's advantage in order to present the company's strengths over its competitors (win themes)
  • Provide advice on risks to be covered in bids and to ensure that the bids are adequately bounded
  • Review and / or approval of bids in line with delegations
  • Liaise with Commercial Managers to ensure the best commercial offering with least commercial risk is offered

The Successful Applicant

The successful Bid Manager will have the following experience:

  • Proven ability to manage and produce compliant bids of high complexity
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal skills - confidence, drive, challenge, influencing skills, pro-active
  • High level of writing skills, with ability to vary style effectively to suit target audience
  • Very effective time management skills
  • In depth knowledge of bid management, governance, financial and commercial aspects together with best practice
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiar with government based contracts
  • Ability to understand technical requirements
