The client is a leading university in the West Midlands.

Job Description

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To develop rolling plans for planned preventative, legislative and long-term cyclical maintenance for all of the University estate.

2. To plan and control the surveying company which undertakes the University's legislative compliance and condition survey.

3. To ensure delivery of a quality planned preventative maintenance service across the University.

4. Manage the University Minor Improvement service.

5. Effectively manage the Technical Supervisors and ensure they manage and organise all in-house maintenance staff.

6. Manage and control all external contractors who carry out maintenance works and ensure procedures are in place to monitor their effectiveness.

7. To ensure that the out-of-hours service is effectively organised.

8. To ensure compliance with statutory and advisory regulations in relation to all works carried out by the maintenance department or its contractors.

9. Ensure the implementation of safe working methods, risk assessments and safe systems of work in line with the Division's Safety Policy. Further, ensure all maintenance staff have received the relevant health & safety training in line with their work.

10. Ensure liaison has taken place with heads and staff of academic and other departments on all aspects of repair work, maintenance or minor improvements.

11. To organise and/or attend site meetings with contractors as required.

12. To keep up-to-date with relevant technical and regulatory developments in building construction trades..

13. To assist in the recording and dissemination of information in the preparation of and action upon Maintenance Performance Reports.

14. To carry out such other duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be required within the level of the post.

The Successful Applicant

The Post Holder must have a minimum of ten years experience in a supervisory/management position within the construction industry and have either a sound trade background or a professional qualification in a construction discipline.
