Job Description

  • To work as part of the Programme Team to promote collaboration in delivering the vision and objectives for the benefit of the business and to sustain drive and energy in your Category Team
  • To ensure that the category is setup to meet its objectives to deliver the anticipated outcomes and benefits in line with good category management practice utilising Management Information (MI) and market insights to identify, develop and implement appropriate commercial arrangements for your categories
  • To deliver savings and efficiencies through the implementation of industry best practice in the procurement and delivery of your category by using supplier capability and market insight to transform current practices and embed standardisation whilst driving consistency and continuity of costs, products and services
  • To lead and manage the delivery of the category action plan with your Category Team and other stakeholders, including: opportunity identification and analysis, new strategic sourcing projects, live contract management activities, supplier relationship management, supplier performance management and supplier development
  • To provide category leadership across the business for the management of category / sub-category strategies ensuring appropriate governance in line with the business operating model
  • To apply the correct level of monitoring and control to the category and report on implementation of the category strategy and value delivery to the relevant Steering Group and the Board
  • To integrate with people across the Programme Team and the wider community, actively managing overall category performance to achieve the relevant schedule, cost and quality parameters

The Successful Applicant

  • Recognition as a senior practitioner in their particular field of expertise with sufficient experience to be able to build trust and alignment across the business
  • Has already established, or has a proven ability to establish, a personal network of internal customers, suppliers and other category related experts
  • Expert knowledge, understanding and the practical application of supply chain sourcing strategies and management arrangements
  • Developed external knowledge of best practice in the relevant category to support opportunity identification
  • Demonstrated experience of successfully creating and managing high value and complex performance based contracts with a variety of pricing arrangements - firm, fixed, cost plus incentive fee, and target costs
  • Practical experience of successfully developing and delivering business change projects including confidence and ability to develop plans and hold people to account for delivery to agreed milestones and quality standards
  • Team leadership and management skills and relevant experience to set performance standards and coach individuals to support their personal development and to maximise their capability

Deep understanding of both the specialism and supply markets for the following categories:

  • Outsourced Technology / Network Services including Service Integration
  • Hardware and Technology Products
  • Voice and Data Services (including Mobile Telephony / Video Conferencing)
