Michael Page Property & Construction have recently been instructed by an established and successful retail development organisation. Working as an integral part of their in-house property acquisition, development and project delivery function, the role offers excellent scope to lead exciting new build and extension projects with a strong potential of continued projects.

Job Description

The role of Client-side Project Manager - Retail Development is a key member on the in-house property and store development function of a progressive retail business.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Closely working with the acquisitions team and third party consultants to develop and build new stores.
  • Preparing monthly progress reports, monitoring performance of contractors and consultants and managing the refurbishment programmes.
  • Appointing and managing contractors to complete the works.
  • Budget management.
  • Working with all the stakeholders involved.



The Project Manager will be principally responsible for construction delivery of new sites, extensions and modernisation of the existing store portfolio.

They will also be responsible for the following: -

  • Monitoring the project process and ensuring project plans and deadlines are met
  • Checking quality standards and ensuring these are adhered to
  • Implementation of Company Specification to ensure a uniform standard to all projects
  • Managing relationships with external consultants, contractors and suppliers
  • Preparing tender packs and negotiating with main contractors
  • Ensuring our sites have the highest standards of Health & safety at all times
  • The ability to quickly resolve issues to ensure deadlines are not jeopardised and projects continue to progress
  • Hold weekly site meetings and produce site meeting minutes to chart construction progress.
  • Continuous feedback of progress to the Senior Team
  • Controlling the project budgets and management of additional costs when required



You will cover a North West England region including Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire and Merseyside, working on a contract basis (likely to be a 12 month duration) to deliver a continuous project development programme.

The Successful Applicant

As an integral part of the in-house property and projects team, the successful applicant will be:

  • A proven project manager with a core professional qualification (e.g. RICS, MAPM) and capable of delivering a number of projects concurrently.
  • Experience in the commercial property sector (building and construction delivery) ideally delivering projects in the retail, leisure, commercial development
  • Capable of operating autonomously in a multi-site and complex stakeholder environment.
  • Commercially aware with the acumen to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • A strategic thinker with well-developed communication and influencing skills.
