About Our Client

Our client is a 15-20 million business unit, within a larger 150M international operating chemical company. The business unit in Leipzig specializes in fine chemical manufacturing. We are looking for an ambitious and dynamic Commercial Director, who enjoys introducing own ideas and building up business units from scratch.

Job Description

  • Building a new commercial management and new business development program on top of an existing manufacturing/R&D segment for the objective of restructuring a factory into a stand-alone business unit with full P&L accountability.
  • Manage and optimize existing product portfolio with clients from the following businesses: Pharma, agriculture, minerals, petrochemicals and related fields.
  • Diversifying the portfolio through New Product Development, leveraging R&D, Pilot and full commercial scale assets through business development practices.
  • Responsibility and accountability for synergy potentials with affiliate business units by providing contract manufacturing services to those affiliates.
  • Application of modern sales techniques as well as detailed and continuous sales controlling
  • Evaluation and interpretation of the sales structure and gradual adoption of managerial responsibility for a larger commercial team as revenues grow (including the possibility of becoming managing director with full P&L responsibilities for the business unit.)
  • Development and execution of innovative sales and marketing strategies in selling chemical substances
  • Conduction and support of contract negotiations and acquisition of new key customers in all of Europe
  • Continuing control and advancement of sales figures and respective adaption of sales and marketing measures
  • Close cooperation with the managing director, the local factory manager as well as the R&D manager and other key individuals as needed to fulfill the commercial objectives.
  • Participation in internal and external sales and marketing events.

The Successful Applicant

  • Completed technological, engineering or chemical study program or similar education
  • Passionate business developer with experience in fine chemicals
  • High affinity with products in specialty chemicals as well as experience in negotiating with chemists and engineers
  • Excellent commercial, technological and chemical understanding
  • Desirable to have experience in contract manufacturing within the pharma, agriculture, minerals or petrochemical industry or related fields
  • Confident and communicative personality with self-starter approach
  • High willingness for international travel
  • Language proficiency in English, good German skills, ideally some French skills
