Job Description

This is a hands on technical role where the successful Configuration Manager will also be responsible for managing and leading a small team of engineers. You will be responsible for provide extensive technical expertise and operational support to Web & IT infrastructure & working alongside the Technical Operations, Development and Release & Deployment teams to support the continuous successful delivery of various applications.

You will also be responsible for the further acceptance and adoption of DevOps, public cloud and configuration management tools and also be the main driver in increasing the pace of change to add more business value while ensuring quality of service


  • Manage, coach, mentor & develop a team
  • Build, support and maintain multiply development and production environments hosted on internal and public cloud solutions for full software development lifecycle
  • Support and work alongside development teams to ensure they have all the facilities to achieve their goals and objectives & you can achieve yours
  • Develop and implement automated processes to ensure that environments are consistent, are scalable and fast deployment can be achieved
  • Provision and maintain infrastructure components such as Servers, Virtualisation, Active Directory, Group Policy, IIS, DNS, Networking, and Monitoring Solutions
  • Develop, configure and monitor early warning and alert systems
  • Liaise with the business & departmental managers to ensure that business requirements, scope and time lines are achievable
  • Lead and manage project where appropriate
  • Provide support up to 3rd line/architect level.
  • Managing and control changes to the environment
  • Experience with third party clouds - AWS, Azure
  • A strong understanding of core network protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP etc
  • Providing ad-hoc infrastructure services

The Successful Applicant

The person/technology:

  • Strong technical background
  • Team management experience
  • Experience of working in high availability web facing business
  • Expert knowledge of high level languages such as Ruby or Python
  • Strong Windows systems admin experience (essential)
  • Proven Linux administration experience (desirable)
  • Significant experience working with Configuration Management - using tools such as Chef or Docker or Puppet.
  • Automation tools such as Jenkins or Rundeck
  • Experience of documenting environments and procedures
  • Experience with third party clouds - AWS, Azure
  • At ease with troubleshooting in complex environments - large server farms
  • Agile/Scrum environment experience
  • Experience in a continuous delivery environment
