About Our Client

The firm is a leading legal business where the Construction group is an integral part of the Real Estate division and works closely with the firm's Energy & Infrastructure Team. It is a leading team in construction procurement, drafting and negotiation advice on developments and major projects. They also advise on the construction aspects of investment acquisitions and disposals and funding due diligence.

The team has been involved in a range of construction and development projects advising owners, developers, funders and investors and developing bespoke construction solutions to meet the differing needs of particular businesses.

The team also regularly advises on construction issues that arise during the development phase and post completion, assisting in the management and resolution of problems through a range of dispute mechanisms and promoting alternative dispute resolution processes, such as mediation where appropriate. Our work is truly international in its nature - as well as domestic work, we are extremely active throughout the Middle East and Africa, with further strength in Asia inbound work from China into the UK.

Job Description

Construction Associate - London

Role to include:

  • Tendering and competition procedures
  • Procurement

  • Private finance initiatives and public-private partnership concession agreements

  • Construction main contracts, both bespoke and amendments to international and local standard forms

  • Bespoke and standard-form international engineering contracts including International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC), Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) contracts and NEC/ECC forms

  • Project management (PMC) contracts as well as engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contracts and other multi-contract models

  • Consultant Appointments

  • All types of dispute resolution processes including litigation, international arbitration, adjudication, disputes boards and other contractual processes.
  • Warranties and 3rd party rights

The Successful Applicant

The successful Construction associate would ideally have:

  • Good training contract (City, U.S or leading regional)
  • 2.1 Degree (or better) from good university

  • Preference for UK-educated lawyers or those who have a long-term commitment to being in the UK.

  • Experience of managing trainees, paralegals and junior associates would be an advantage

  • In-depth experience in construction and/or projects at a law firm (or in-house department) recognised as delivering high quality construction advice with appropriate supervision
