Job Description

  • Advising on legal issues arising in relation to Foreign Exchange contracts, and on developing new documentation as required, in particular documentation for use with emerging markets clients/counterparties;
  • Conducting netting, enforceability, jurisdictional and other reviews;
  • Advising on applicable laws and regulations generally and in the context of Foreign Exchange derivative trading activities, including regulatory change, in particular under EMIR and MiFID II/MiFIR;
  • Assisting with enquiries from regulators;
  • Managing consultation process with outside legal service providers;
  • Working cooperatively with lawyers in the European region and, where required, the US and APAC regions and applicable managers; also with our offshore documentation team;
  • Managing two Foreign Exchange lawyers who are at Assistant Vice President level;
  • Active involvement in the preparation of internal new product/service approval processes, including liaison with Head of Legal for Global Markets in EMEA at key stages of the process;
  • Ensuring all internal legal templates, policies and guidelines are understood and implemented and are up to date against applicable legislation.

The Successful Applicant

  • UK or equivalent qualified solicitor with relevant PQE experience gained, preferably in the derivatives department of a major law firm and/or in-house position;
  • Financial services experience, and specifically ISDA, CSA and FX related experience, in particular experience in emerging markets FX transactions, including non-deliverable forwards;
  • Familiarity with electronic exchange platforms and methodologies for FX;
  • Knowledge of EMIR, MiFID, MiFID II, MAR and Dodd Frank impact on documentation and procedures;
  • Results-oriented with strong project management and execution skills;
  • Good interpersonal and client management skills with ability to sustain strong relationships with clients, peers and staff;
  • Ability to interact with multiple levels in an organization and in multiple jurisdictions;
  • Keen understanding of market practice impacting the business lines in the relevant jurisdictions and ability to work with business units to achieve practical solutions within applicable regulatory and risk parameters;
