About Our Client

A leading Housing Association in the North West is going through a large period of growth/expansion and as a result is looking to hire a new commercial accountant.

Job Description

The main duties of the role are

  • Accurate reporting of the financial impact of the property sales and development programs
  • Rigorous scrutiny of investment proposals and appraisals
  • Assisting with development and implementation of new business processes
  • Improving operational efficiency of the development.

Cash Flow

  • Ensure all development acquisitions, land and property purchases, and disposals and major works contracts, and grant income are included within the cash flows and liaise with the development team and finance team when appropriate.

Capital Budgeting & Monitoring

  • Provision of the development and sales and disposals programme information for inclusion in the Group's annual capital budget, including any related revenue budgets.
  • Provision of the financial inputs for the 5 year development programme for inclusion in the Long Term Financial Plans.
  • Design self-service reports for monthly monitoring of the capital programme against approved budgets.
  • Design self-service reports to ensure that development review all capital accruals, capital commitments and retentions on system monthly to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Design reports to enable development to monitor the Group against the Affordable Homes Programme (AHP) and ensure compliance with HCA requirements including public transparency disclosures and the quarterly finance survey.

Project Appraisal

  • Undertake an annual review of all development appraisal assumptions
  • Ensure new projects are planned in a tax efficient way.


  • Ensure that development financial reporting is fit for purpose including continuous improvement, efficiency, productivity and self-service.

The Successful Applicant

To excel in the role, the candidate should have

  • CIMA/ACCA/ACA Qualified
  • At least 2 years in a Finance Post
  • Knowledge and experience of financial accounts
  • Working knowledge of budget monitoring
  • Working knowledge of Project Appraisals
  • Confidence in challenging development and financial directors
  • Experience in liaising with internal/ external auditors and customers
  • Advanced Excel experience
  • Experience in working with financial IT systems
  • Strong presentation and board report writing skills
  • Ability to lead a team towards performance targets
  • Ability to work on own initiative and under pressure
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse range of people and take account of their views
