Job Description

  • Produce effective, engaging and audience appropriate content that promotes our brand and safeguards our reputation for quality and excellence, which makes strategic use of the full range of formats now available (to include reports, blogs, HTML, audio, visual, infographics, and emerging formats).
  • Advise on, develop and deliver content plans as part of wider influencing strategies or service delivery objectives, which seek to maximise impact and make best use of resources (time, cost and environmental).
  • Write, commission, edit and upload content for the web to ensure that our digital offering remains a leader in research and policy communications.
  • Contribute to the delivery of the content dimension of the influencing and communications strategy, and support the Head of Content to undertake a content review.
  • Ensure that our content is part of wider public affairs influencing strategies or service delivery plans, so that our content is targeted, strategic and effective in line with organizational objectives.



  • Keep up-to-date with the latest publishing and content trends and apply the learning to continue innovating on our formats, particularly digital developments.
  • Identify areas of reputational risk and work with the engagement and public affairs teams to put in place effective mitigation, and keep up-to-date with relevant political and social policy issues to ensure awareness of the operating environment.
  • Work closely with the digital communications and marketing team to ensure that user insight is being applied to constantly improve and refine approaches to content.
  • Source, commission and manage suppliers (e.g. animators) to ensure quality and best value for money throughout the project.
  • Apply a rigorous approach to evaluating impact of content and work with the digital communications team to ensure that content fits with the engagement strategy.
  • Ensure all materials reflect house styles, guidelines and brand values and contribute to the ongoing development and maintenance of corporate style and related guidelines.
  • To take on other responsibilities as reasonably required.

The Successful Applicant

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent (includes equivalent amount of professional experience).
  • A communications or publishing related qualification is desirable but not essential.





Essential Experience

  • Experience of producing engaging content for a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience of project managing, including budgets, suppliers and people.
  • Experience of monitoring, evaluating and implementing change based on data and user evaluation and analysis.





Desirable Experience

  • Experience of content creation or publishing in a professional communications environment.
  • Experience of developing and delivering targeted digital content plans.
  • Experience of communicating complex material to lay audiences.





Essential skills & knowledge

  • Ability to work well with staff at all levels and from across the organisation.
  • High standards of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in conveying statistical and research material



  • Commitment to equality and diversity, including accessible communications in staff engagement and service delivery.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook





Desirable skills and knowledge

  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills, to ensure house and series styles are met; to proofread; to write clearly and concisely.
  • Creative and innovative, with up-to-date knowledge of digital trends and how to apply them.
  • A good design eye, able to produce and edit strong visual content including effective use of imagery and photography.
  • Ability to work closely and negotiate with authors/senior staff/external contacts.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, remaining adaptable and pragmatic.
  • A team player who can work across content, digital, public affairs, stakeholder engagement, media relations and events.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including a positive and proactive approach with a focus on collaboration and finding solutions.
  • A digital and social media enthusiast who can work with others to open up the possibilities that digital communications provides for social change and research communications.



This post will require occasional travel to London and occasional out of hours working.
