About Our Client

Over the last 50 years Orbit Group has grown to serve 100,000 customers, manage a residential portfolio that will soon surpass 40,000 homes, build around 1500 new homes each year and deliver a turnover of £245m. "Building communities" encompasses the vision for 2020, a set of challenging objectives that will improve the services delivered to existing customers and expand this offering to new ones. In line with this strategy and the group's culture of continuous improvement the executive team has identified the need for this newly created role of Director of Strategic Asset Management.

Job Description

The Director of Strategic Asset Management (SAM) will devise, plan and deliver the group's investment strategy, lead the SAM team and play a key role in the Orbit Leadership Team. Through effective collaboration with the senior colleagues the post holder will also drive cultural change across the group to foster an ever increasing customer centric approach to all services.

In addition the role will include, but not be limited to, the following responsibilities;

  • Develop a portfolio management approach, maximising financial returns whilst adhering to Orbit values
  • Devise programmes of planned maintenance, energy efficiency and other works, in collaboration with the Director of Property Services
  • Act as the Secretariat for the Strategic Portfolio Management Group which includes colleagues from Customer Services, Property, Development and Finance
  • Identify and carry out option appraisals on under performing properties, manage disposals and acquisitions and analyse spend data on all maintenance cycles to continually improve the SAM process.
  • Collaborate with Orbit Homes colleagues to ensure new development strategy aligns with SAM.
  • Champion the assessment and implementation of innovative technologies that improve the sustainability of the portfolio. Support the group in securing external funding for investment programmes.

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate will combine a commercial approach with a proven track record of delivering exceptional levels of service to external and internal customers. A natural leader and catalyst of change and improvement, you will be able to positively motivate and engage with colleagues at all levels to achieve tangible outcomes. You will also demonstrate pride, passion and energy in the role demonstrating resilience when necessary whilst being open to new ideas and confident in your own.

Applications for the Director of Strategic Asset Management are encouraged from candidates who possess the following;

  • A RICS/CIOB or equivalent professional qualification is desired but not essential
  • A demonstrable track record of achievement in developing asset management strategy
  • Detailed knowledge of the construction, development and maintenance industries preferably gained in the residential sector.

You may currently be working in a senior position for a Housing Association, Maintenance Business, Property Consultancy or Facilities Management company. You will be ready for a fresh and exciting challenge helping Orbit Group build communities and ensure it is prepared for the next 50 years.
