About Our Client

An established Insurance business experiencing considerable growth and looking to create an new and exciting business unit. The Head office is in Glasgow but this opportunity can be based from any location and will be flexible around the successful applicant's location.

Job Description


  • Create and implement an underwriting function (end to end process);
  • Understand all reporting requirements (both from an internal and external perspective) to identify required changes in existing processes and tools;
  • Ability to be able to create an underwriting book from scratch;
  • Credibility and experience to provide confidence to significant capacity provider;
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders (both internal and external);
  • Underwriting support for all motor products;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build a team that have varying levels of underwriting experience;
  • Resolve day to day underwriting queries and referrals from operations in line with acceptance criteria and the underwriting philosophy.
  • Help with the processing of underwriting audits and monitoring of referrals and overrides to ensure risk control measures and underwriting criteria are being adhered to.
  • Help maintain the underwriting and process guides to ensure data is current and accurate.
  • Undertake analysis of competitor products and prices to provide accurate information for reporting purposes.
  • Produce and review requirements feeding long term systems solution across the entire end to end underwriting process;
  • Develop practical solutions to emerging technical queries;

The Successful Applicant


  • Technical motor insurance experience in an insurance company or broker.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Authorised to use Delegated Authority.
  • Results oriented.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible and responsive to change.
  • Able to balance and address conflicting priorities.
  • Self motivated with proactive approach.
  • Clarity of thought and expression.
  • High literacy and numeric ability
  • Have a detailed understanding of the main features of a range of regulatory issues.
  • Have a detailed understanding of all roles within the new business unit and ability to implement improvements.
  • Have a good knowledge of the regulatory practices which impact on own work and/or the work of the team.
  • Have a good understanding of the likely impact of forthcoming change.
  • Fully Qualified Actuary with experience in motor insurance.
