About Our Client

A Legal 500 rated Birmingham law firm.

Job Description

Most firms follow the traditional approach of instructing Counsel when matters get to the tribunal stage and a lot of lawyers don't have the opportunity to get involved with conducting their own advocacy. Have you always been an advocate at heart but not had much chance to do this?

This opportunity with a Legal 500 Birmingham firm will give you the opportunity, amongst other things, to conduct your own advocacy at hearings and tribunals. The team do not instruct Counsel - they are actively encouraged to do the advocacy themselves - and each solicitor appears in tribunals.

The team don't just get involved with contentious work. There is a decent split and you will be expected to get involved with day-to-day employment advice for their clients, many of which are household and leading commercial organisations.

If you are also looking for a firm which can map out a clear progression plan for you, then this firm can also offer you that. It's a fairly small team in comparison to some of the large Corporate firms in Birmingham, so you will have a clear path and the Partners are happy to talk to you about what progression would look like if you were to join.

Outside of the day-to-day fee-earning, the team are actively involved in business development and training for clients. Each member of the team gets involved in delivering content and training to their clients as well as attending the usual breakfast seminars and networking events.

There have been plenty of Employmenty Law opportunities so far this year in the Midlands market but this opportunity can offer you something different, particularly in the form of your own advocacy work.

The Successful Applicant

It's likely that you are an Employment Solicitor with solid post-qualification experience advising on contentious and non-contentious matters.

You may be working at a large firm but looking to move to a firm with more work/life balance and the opportunity to get involved with tribunal work. Equally, a lot of the firm's successful recruits have come from much smaller regional firms and they are interested in people who want to make the step up.

It's very desirable that you have your own advocacy experience in the tribunals as this will be a key part of the role. If you haven't been fortunate to get much experience but this is a passion of yours, then it is still worth applying for the opportunity but you will have to prove at interview stage that you have the skill set to get stuck into this and the desire to pick this up quickly.
