About Our Client
An independent not for profit organisation. The organisation is entering an exciting phase in its development, building relationships with a new Government, championing the industry and protecting consumers.
With organic growth year on year they are now looking to appoint a new Finance Director to lead the finance team in Bedfordshire. The role will be pivotal in improving finance processes, raising the profile of finance and leading all financial matters of the business.
This role will suit a self-motivated individual, able to operate at a senior level co-ordinating and managing all financial and management accounting.
Reporting to and working alongside the CEO and Council members. The Finance Director will have the experience and necessary gravitas to autonomously run the finance and IT teams for the business.
Full responsibility for the finance function including the Investment portfolio and procurement
Real-time reporting to the Finance Committee on all significant financial issues
As part of the senior management team, focus on achieving the company's strategic initiatives
Formulating financial targets and budgets in accordance with strategy determined by the Board
Preparation of the annual budget
Corporate finance - managing company policies and investment portfolio
Help produce, review and analyse monthly management accounts (comprising full profit & loss account, balance sheet and cash flow with commentary)
Manage accounts team to ensure timely preparation of management accounts and financial information
Ensure necessary financial controls are adhered to - e.g. credit control, payment of suppliers, payroll
Prepare and manage year-end statutory accounts
Help prepare detailed budgets and forecasts which enable accurate measurement against actual performance
The Successful Applicant
Candidates must demonstrate a solid track record in a senior finance role with proven ability to operate effectively as part of a management team bringing financial and commercial priorities to decision making process. You will have strong commercial acumen, someone who thinks strategically and takes a proactive approach to finding effective solutions.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with at least 3 - 5 years PQE. A blend of sector exposure within either Not for Profit or contract driven environments, such as, facilities management, construction or engineering would be advantageous. Experience of working for similar sized SME's would be desirable too. Candidates looking for a progression move from a Financial Controller will also be considered.
You will be comfortable leading a small finance function, being hands on, autonomous and also influencing at Board level. The right candidate will also have an enthusiastic, driven and self-motivated personality and the ability to quickly contribute to the culture and way of working. Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills are essential. This role will give the right candidate the opportunity to develop their team through effective mentoring and support as well as shape the future of the business. You will deputise for the CEO where appropriate and be a focused and driven FD with the ability to develop and learn in a changing environment.
