About Our Client

We are currently working with our client to recruit a Finance Manager to join a new venture based in Halifax within the Legal Sector.

Job Description

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly management accounts (monthly P&L) and preparation of full commentary of monthly performance. Comprehensive variance analysis to plan / forecast of both financials and case volumes. Completion and submission of monthly French reporting pack. Presentation of monthly performance at governance and board meetings.

  • Responsibility for all aspects of financial management and control to ensure full compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules. Maintain breach register and report to board on at governance meetings.

  • Monitor company cash flow to ensure loans drawn down in accordance with business needs and repaid in a timely manner to as to minimise interest payments.

  • Work closely with business partners to ensure accurate and complete information received to manage the business. Attend a monthly meeting to review performance and WIP. Develop MI reporting to closely monitor performance and provide feedback to the board regarding variances to plan to inform decision making.

  • Preparation of an accurate, comprehensive annual business plan and periodic forecasts throughout the year. Provide challenge to plan assumptions where necessary. Ensure all plan information and assumptions are presented in an understandable format to enable tracking against actual performance.

  • Oversight and control of tax transactions. Review of quarterly VAT return and preparation of annual corporation tax packs for tax advisor. Oversight of employee tax returns. Ensure adherence to emerging legislation and requirements

  • Oversight of the year end process. Prepare and sign off statutory accounts, regulatory returns and group reporting packs accurately and to time.

  • Develop and maintain strong relations with the external audit team (both statutory accounting audit and solicitor's client account audit). Work effectively and efficiently with them, having pre-approved a timetable, to deliver a clean, to time year end with minimal control errors. Co-ordinate response to any audit recommendations / management letter points.

  • Manage, mentor and develop Legal Cashier. Ensure the individual is motivated and has a challenging development plan suited to their needs.

The Successful Applicant

  • Experience of accounting in a legal services company.

  • Thorough understanding of UK GAAP and solicitors accounts rules.

  • Strong analytical skills with intermediate/expert level knowledge of excel.

  • A flexible approach to work, well organised with the ability to work to tight deadlines.

  • Effective staff management skills and ability to manage external relationships.

  • Excellent organisation and planning skills

  • Excellent communication with the ability to liaise with senior management.

  • Working knowledge of the case management system Proclaim is preferable.
