About Our Client
My client is a start-up shoe retailer based in London who already boast a strong UK presence. Their posture-improvement USP along with innovative design and increasing number of lines (formal, casual, outdoor) has seen them grow significantly through two rounds of funding. Now they are looking to expand their e-commerce channels and secure their growth strategy. The senior management team has recently committed to the next growth phase and as a result the Finance Director is looking to bring in a Financial Controller as his number 2.
As the Financial Controller in this retail start-up you will be tasked with managing the day-to-day of the function, delivering clear management information, and supporting on corporate governance. Your key responsibilities will be:
-Managing a team of two part-qualified accounting staff with the potential to grow the team in the next 12 months;
-Taking ownership for the monthly reporting including preparation of the board packs;
-Producing accurate and timely management information including sales reporting, KPI analysis, and cost management;
-Leading on cashflow management with clear forecasting for senior management;
-Building devolved budgets with key stakeholders and managing monthly review meetings;
-Improving controls and processes across the business;
-Acting as the lead on statutory reporting and being the key point of contact to the auditors;
-Supporting the Finance Director as required in areas such as funding, business plan preparation, 5 year P&Ls, business case appraisals.
The Successful Applicant
As a strong applicant for this start-up Financial Controller position you will:
-Be a qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with a strong academic profile;
-Demonstrate a strong background in controls and process development with a clear understanding of best practice;
-Show exposure to managing the month end process and producing accurate management information;
-Demonstrate a clear ability to build budgets and manage relationships with key budget holders;
-Possess excellent communication skills with an ability to influence key members of senior management (ideally within a start-up or SME environment);
-An understanding of a retail business through previous roles is highly advantageous.
-You must be eligible to work full-time in London.
What's on Offer
The offer to the successful candidate will be £65,000-£80,000 depending on experience with auto-enrol pension and free shoes. A more complete benefits package will develop as the business grows, and the potential for listing could prove lucrative for the right candidate. In this role the successful candidate will gain significant exposure to senior management as well as stepping into a role to run a finance function.
