At circa £130m turnover, the Doncaster Wabtec Rail site is the largest within the UK Group and specialises in maintenance and refurbishment projects on passenger, locomotive and freight rail vehicles. Wabtec Rail is one of the UK's leading rail vehicle engineering companies and with circa 1150 staff on site, Wabtec Rail Doncaster is considered a centre of excellence in end to end locomotive maintenance and refurbishment.

Job Description

Wabtec Rail are now looking to appoint a Financial Controller for the Doncaster site. Reporting directly into the Finance Director, this is a high profile position with a key focus of assisting with the development of key management information, profitability and improve current processes across the site. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious finance professional to come in, drive improvements and add value.

This is a key appointment and forms an integral part of the finance structure for the Doncaster operations. A hands-on approach and the ability to drive improvements via systems and management information is essential.

The ability to communicate the relevant information, in the right way, will ultimately define success. This individual will have previously worked in a manufacturing environment, as such they will be very comfortable with dealing with various challenges at once, whilst maintaining an overall focus on driving improvements.


  • Responsibility for the Company's financial and management accounting systems.
  • Day to day management of the finance team, including the coaching and development of staff
  • Oversee the production the relevant month end accounts through to completion in an accurate and timely manner
  • Formulate Company budget & forecast and ensure business meets or betters them.
  • Driving process improvement and audit of internal procedures
  • Provide key Management Information and analysis for the business, in order to assist with management decisions and to monitor performance.
  • Manage the Capital Expenditure process from inception of idea to post implementation review
  • Liaison with external agencies, and to deputise for the Finance Director when appropriate.
  • Actively participate in Lean activities and ensure that costings remain accurate and commercially viable.
  • Carry out ad hoc tasks and projects as requested by the Finance Director, Managing Director and UK Finance Director

The Successful Applicant

The Financial Controller is likely to be a CIMA / ACCA qualified team player with significant projects, costing and MRP experience. It would also be advantageous for this individual to have been through an ERP implementation or improvement projects and understand the benefits of this. The successful candidate will ultimately be working towards being the future Finance Director of Wabtec in Doncaster, therefore they will have demonstrated a desire to lead a finance structure in the future.
