About Our Client

This International, Top 20 Accountancy firm based in Canary Wharf, East London, is a network of independent accounting firms that provides a challenging work environment and encourages individual success. They are actively looking for candidates who have a combination of strong academics and a business/commercial mind.

The Financial Services Division you will be joining mainly focuses on the London insurance market, with a large amount of statutory audit work for, capital providers, agency groups, insurance companies/brokers, fund managers, venture capitalists and hedge fund managers. There is also the possibility to work on projects in corporate finance reporting, due diligence investigations and internal audit reviews.

Job Description

As a Financial Services Audit Manager, the main duties will include:

  • Being recognised as an expert in the insurance sector
  • Aid in winning new business through existing clients, but also by identifying new business opportunities both in audit and outside of audit
  • Take control of the planning, on-site running and completion of a portfolio of assignments
  • Being passionate about a career within practice and the insurance industry

Through effective management of a client portfolio, you will:

  • Efficiently manage your time to ensure your client portfolio is properly serviced and work is completed in a timely manner
  • Managing all stages of the audit and advising the partner on the audit opinion;
  • Anticipate accounting issues based on experience and knowledge of other companies, recommending solutions
  • Advise clients on all financial reporting issues with reference to other specialists where necessary
  • Manage audit teams and review their work
  • Be responsible for on the job training as required
  • Ensure compliance with internal (methodology and risk management) and external (regulatory) requirements

In addition to managing a portfolio of audit clients, you may also deal with project work/special work which arises on your clients and may be involved in additional project work/special work for other clients.

Examples of these include:

  • Assisting with any PRA or FCA investigation
  • Tracing offshore assets
  • Share valuation models
  • Arranging and negotiating acquisitions on behalf of clients
  • Documenting internal controls for UK branch of one of the world's largest insurers
  • Assisting in special assignments in areas such as corporate finance, investigatory, regulatory compliance or strategic planning.

Admin tasks will include:

  • Acting as a mentor for a group of trainees and conducting their appraisals
  • Contributing to staff briefing meetings held monthly to advise staff of firm developments
  • Recruiting staff - conducting second interviews with a partner

The Successful Applicant

The successful Financial Services Audit Manager will have the following skills/experience:

  • Fully Qualified ACA/ACCA
  • Proven auditing skills (preferably with insurance clients)
  • Strong IT skills (Thorough knowledge of Excel)
  • Proven technical & leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms
  • Proven managerial skills on engagements
