2 office Chartered Accountants. Are growing organically & by acquisition, requiring the recruitment of a General Practice / Accounts Manager.

Job Description

General Practice / Accounts Manager: The size & quality of the firm, Manager applicants should to be competent in more specialist non-compliance work such as business valuations, tax planning (personal and corporate) on good quality clients. The Partners are looking for a candidate that they could put in front of a Director of a £5m company and for that Director to be confident i that individual.

Audit is not a necessary part of this role, thought the firm has plenty of audit work, this is covered by another of the 4 Managers.

Role will include:

  • take responsibility for a portfolio of clients and control all aspects of the preparation and execution of engagements for those clients including finalisation meetings
  • maintain continuous and beneficial contact with clients
  • carry out complex aspects of work including preparing the final output of an engagement
  • keep engagement partners adequately informed of progress on engagements.
  • maintain close contact with clients throughout engagements to ensure continuing good relations and the effective completion of work
  • prepare the invoice of client work. Monitors time spent on engagements to ensure a commercial return for the business. Deal with any client queries.
  • assist in the on-job training and development of junior staff
  • prepare and discuss staff performance reports and participate in staff appraisals
  • bring to the attention of partners opportunities to promote additional services to existing and potential clients
  • promotes the full range of services available to existing and potential clients
  • develops and maintains a personal network of contacts. Represents the firm at external activities

The Successful Applicant

General Practice / Accounts Manager, Essential:

  • ACCA/ACA Qualified
  • experience working in General Practice
  • Comprehensive accounting and taxation experience including:
    • Accounting standards
    • Corporate taxation
    • Mainstream personal taxation
    • Mainstream VAT
  • Technically up to date
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience of staff supervision


  • Knowledge of IRIS and Sage software
  • Management accounts and book-keeping experience
  • Audit skills useful but not essential
