Job Description


For the business:

  • Manage and control cash to optimise free cash levels available to the business
  • Assist the Group Financial Controller with the production of the 13 week Group cash flow forecast

Credit management & control:

  • Maintain effective procedures and disciplines to ensure that invoices are raised promptly and cash received according to approved/agreed terms of trading

Supplier payments:

Maintain effective procedures and disciplines to ensure that orders/commitments are made in accordance with laid down procedures and payments are properly approved and authorised before payment


  • Produce the Monthly Management Accounts for subsidiaries in accordance with the group reporting timetable

Complete full balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis


  • Develop a 'dynamic' forecasting capability for P&L, cash and balance sheet - excel model

Produce a 'bottom up' robust, credible and achievable annual budget, in accordance with the group timetable


  • Prepare statutory and regulatory returns including HMRC and National Statistics

Assist with the production of grants claims


  • Work closely with the Farms and Properties MD to produce all of the capital expenditure and project cash flow forecast reports
  • Ensure that the laid down procedure for approval and purchase of capital items is adhered to.

Maintain capital expenditure approval register.

The Successful Applicant

Key Skills and Knowledge

  • Qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACCA)
  • Good interpersonal skills - able to effectively communicate and influence at all levels
  • Good time management skills - well organized, daily planning and prioritization
  • A team player, who is also able to operate on own initiative
  • Proven ability to produce monthly management accounts, comprising P&L, Balance sheet & cash flow, with commentary on variances to budget, without supervision
  • High level of numeracy and computer literacy - specifically Excel
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Ideally experienced at operating effectively in a similar owner managed SME environment
