About Our Client

The Group Reporting Accountant will be working for a Tier 1 Insurance provider based in the West of London. They are going through a dynamic period of growth and expansion so it is a really exciting time to join the team.

Job Description

The Group Reporting Accountant will have the following responsibilities:

IFRS/UK GAAP Reporting


  • Working closely with various teams, for example, Shared Services, Finance Systems, Regional Controllers, Underwriting etc; and maintaining strong relationships with these teams to ensure that issues are anticipated and resolved constructively on timely basis
  • Creating and maintaining close calendar to inform parties of necessary deadline adherence for the following processes: financial close, balance sheet reviews
  • Successfully closing the financial period on timely basis
  • Undertaking thorough control checks and providing support and guidance to branch accountants on the correct treatment of accounting entries as dictated by company/ accounting policies
  • Leading accounting period-close calls over 5-day cycle - where approximately 30 to 40 personnel dial into to the call. Sending follow-up email after the end of the call to all parties involved in the close in order to ensure that everyone are kept abreast of the progress
  • Preparing and posting treasury-related journals, in addition to other ad hoc journals


Monthly Report

    • Co-ordinating monthly balance sheets, including collation and distribution
    • In conjunction with the Group Reporting Manager, undertaking balance sheet review calls with branch accountants to gain understanding on key variances in the month. Where appropriate, challenging the robustness of the accounts in terms of accuracy and completeness, and where numbers are not in line with expectations
  • Preparing high-level synopsis on timely basis for senior management summarising material movements in the month for all the European countries as identified in the balance sheet review call

Quarterly Report

  • Preparing magnitude schedules for reporting to parent company.
  • Undertaking Claims Reserves review exercise with in-house senior actuary; and making corrections as necessary
  • Preparing loss-roll journals; and reporting loss ratio
  • Preparing Claims Handling data on ICOP, IBNR and RBNP reserves
  • Refreshing Actuarial reports in TM1
  • SOX compliance - preparing and submitting reconciliations



  • Ensuring the accounting and reporting for local entity are completed in compliance with IFRS for external and statutory reporting purposes
  • Preparing all aspects of financial statements including all supporting schedules
  • Audit file preparation and ongoing interaction with auditors to answer any questions which they have on the statutory accounts
  • Reviewing entries to ensure compliance with legal and statutory reporting structure
  • Preparing half-year and full-year statistical returns as required by local government authorities - RMAR Returns
  • Ensuring successful delivery of the accounts on time and in accordance with internal policy and external deadlines, effectively reporting progress and escalating issues to the line manager


  • Preparing training material for branch accountants in order to guide them on the correct treatment of accounting/ underwriting entries so as to ensure that minimal errors occur during the close cycle where timelines (set by the US parent company) are very tight and non-negotiable
  • Training in-house actuarial team on differences in accounting treatment in relation to underwriting under US GAAP and UK GAAP
  • Assisting Group Reporting Manager as and when required


  • Scheduling meetings for close calls, balance sheet review calls, quarterly debriefs
  • Rolling-over all the control checks files every month; in addition to other standard monthly files
  • Rolling-over statutory accounts - Word and Excel files - on half-year and full-year basis
  • Printing out balance sheet reviews from branches every quarter
  • Provision of admin support to senior management as and when required
  • Being the main point of contact for month end close questions.

The Successful Applicant

The Group Reporting Accountant will need to have the following skills/experience:

  • Accountancy qualification ( ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Financial Services Experience preferred
  • Able to commute to West London
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Good stakeholder management
  • Ability to work in dynamic environment
