Head of Business Development Team - Financial Membership Body

Team Development and Leadership

  • Lead and manage business development team in existing and target regions/markets.
  • Oversee achievement of targets.
  • Manage new market developments
  • Provide development opportunities for team and ensure that appropriate reward and recognition schemes are in place.
  • Deploy business development and related staff across all market territories to support regional activities where necessary
  • Work closely with marketing team to ensure that integrated sales and marketing plans are in place which make best use of resources

Commercial - Leading and managing business development with customers

  • Manage the organisation's Key Account Management (KAM) process, ensuring all KAM objectives are met and reported on regularly.
  • Refine the KAM process to identify key new organisations to target
  • Personally develop and manage a number of key accounts to get closer to, and gain a better understanding of our customer's needs and try and match their needs with our products and capability
  • Ensure the corporate CRM system is regularly updated with details of all key account meetings by all staff and ensure follow up of all agreed actions from meetings
  • Ensure all business opportunities are recorded in the corporate CRM system and that regular pipeline reports are produced and analysed
  • Manage the Tender Process from opportunity identification through to final edit of submitted tenders, working with our business unit managers where appropriate.
  • Identify the main public sector frameworks on which we should be seeking to feature.

Management Responsibilities

  • Manage the business development and Direct/Telesales teams and work with Reseller/Distributors/Sales Brokers
  • Undertake objective setting and staff appraisals as required.


  • Publicly represent and promote the organisation to wider public finance community
  • Accountable for the achievement of joint objectives with relevant colleagues
  • Develop and maintain a Business Planning process to ensure the optimum balance of resources to meet delivery demands.
  • Contribute to the planning, leadership and management of the Sales and Marketing team as a member of the local management team.
  • Ensure that key internal organisational processes including budget monitoring, business planning, time recording and objective setting are completed to agreed standards and corporate timetables.
  • Identify business opportunities for working in partnership with stakeholders and contribute market intelligence and resources to development activities.
  • Ensure services are delivered to an agreed high standard and meet all quality criteria including ISO accreditation.
  • Ensure that adequate operational planning and financial control systems are in place with systematic monitoring arrangements against plans and budgets,
  • Produce management information on a monthly basis and other reports as required.
  • Report regularly on activities to the Director.
  • Carry out any other duties within the remit of the post as required by senior management, deputising for the Director as required.

The Successful Applicant

Head of Business Development Team - Financial Membership Body

The emphasis on this role is on Sales team management, "getting the best out of your teams". Proven consistent sales management is essential.

The ideal candidate would need to have string leadership and Management Skills as they will be leading two teams including the telesales team as well as the BD team. They really need to know how to get the best out of their teams.

You will benefit from both public and commercial exposure selling a service rather than a product sell.

The role involves a very consultative sell and medium to long sales cycles.

You must be experienced in B2B sales- The successful applicant will require a proven track record in sales along with expertise in knowing how to get the best from their teams.

They will also need to know how to work within a Matrixed structure.

What's on Offer

A basic Salary of £75,000 - £80,000 plus OTE
