Job Description

Advice, Oversight and Assessment
· Develop and maintain arrangements that provide the Group's businesses and the Group Boards with advice on how to meet FCA and PRA regulatory responsibilities in an appropriate, effective and timely manner
· Develop and maintain arrangements to oversee and assess on a regular basis the adequacy and effectiveness of the measures the Group has put in place to ensure it is compliant with its regulatory obligations
· Be accountable for the fair, proportionate and timely development, application and enforcement of the Group's
Compliance arrangements
· Participate as part of the management team in commercial development to ensure the Group can understand and avoid or mitigate undue regulatory risk, without stifling innovation
· Contribute to the development and management of the Group's risk appetites Assurance
· Report and advise on regulatory and compliance matters, including financial crime, as required to the Group Counsel and each Group Board (either directly or through one or more Board Committees)
· Ensure that the Group Boards and its senior management is provided with clear,engaging Management Information on compliance issues, including financial crime matters
· Work with the Group Counsel to identify, record, manage, report and take action on regulatory risks

Regulatory relations
· Maintain effective relationships with the FCA and the PRA and assisting with maintaining an effective relationship with the Insurance and Pensions Authority (IPA) in the Isle of Man
· Anticipate and plan for likely areas of regulatory interest
· Ensure that all contact with regulators, including on-site visits and ad-hoc information
requests are managed smoothly and in a way that enhances the Group's image with its regulators
Compliance Function
· Organise and lead the Compliance Function such that it has the skills, resources, operating policies, processes and a programme of activities appropriate for the Group's regulated business activities, to include supporting the Group's Isle of Man subsidiary
· Manage the performance of staff in the Compliance Function, so that they meet their individual responsibilities and objectives and so that the Compliance Function can discharge its responsibilities properly and effectively
· Ensure that the Function is accountable through the development and maintenance of an Annual Plan and Function Specification and through adherence to relevant clear policies and operating procedures.

Key Performance measures
· Ensure that all reviews of the Compliance Function by the Internal Audit Function, and all reviews by external auditors show that there are no issues of significant concern
· Ensure that any FCA PRA or IPA reviews and assessments of the appropriateness and effectiveness of the Group's Compliance Function do not identify any issues of significant concern
· Satisfy the Group Boards and Committees that the Compliance Function's arrangements are being appropriately maintained in order for the Group to comply with its regulatory obligations

The Successful Applicant

At least 10 years' experience of working in the financial services industry
· Educated to Degree level
· A very good understanding and experience of UK Financial Services
· A broad knowledge of retail financial products and tax wrappers (pensions, ISAs)
Candidates must be from a life and pensions, asset management or insurance background.
· At least 5 years' experience of working in a senior compliance role, encompassing compliance policy advice
and monitoring
· At least 5 years' experience of managing a compliance team
· Demonstrable exposure to Board level.
· Experience of managing regulatory onsite visits and information requests
· Substantial team management and staff development experience, current team size is 13.
