Job Description

  • Ensure the organisation operates within its statutory powers and charitable status.
  • Deliver legal arrangements for contracts with third parties
  • To provide a comprehensive in-house legal function
  • Role model company behaviours and competencies as outlined in the behavioural competency framework, delivering at level 3 as per the framework, with particular focus on 'Lead by Example'
  • Effectively communicate the vision and direction for the portfolio, aligned to the aims and objectives of the company; ensure the portfolio is understood in the context of the business as a whole.
  • Provide guidance and ensure adherence to all Corporate Policies and Standards; demonstrate personal adherence to the Corporate Responsibilities for the role
  • Provide input into setting budget(s) for own area and then track and manage spend against budget; (responsible for total budget of up to £1m)
  • Continually assess resource needs to ensure effective delivery of objectives; identify and secure the internal and external resources that enable the team's contribution to the achievement of company objectives.

The Successful Applicant

  • Educated to degree level with relevant professional qualification
  • Qualified English law solicitor holding a current practising certificate
  • Significant post qualification experience including some within a commercial environment with experience in the following areas



Expertise in the following specific areas:-

  • Regulated Industry
  • Property law
  • Intellectual Property rights
  • Data Protection/Freedom of Information
  • Public sector procurement law
  • Charity law
  • Experience of influencing senior stakeholders (internal and external)
  • Operational knowledge of other business disciplines in order be able to resolve issues that have an impact beyond own professional discipline
  • Comprehensive understanding of how own business area integrates with other business areas in order to achieve the goals of the company
  • Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the latest developments and changes in market conditions within the profession
  • Demonstrable experience of managing a team of professionals and/or a virtual cross-functional team

What's on Offer
