Job Description

To be responsible for the development of the annual service action plan and key objectives for Health & Safety team ensuring they support the business plan and continuous improvement of health and safety management.

To contribute to the 2 business plan in conjunction with the director of property services and development.

Ensure that the Health and Safety Policies and procedures are reviewed at least annually and /or, when there is a change in legislation and that the correct consultation with employees and their representatives is undertaken. 

To regularly review accident, near miss and dangerous occurrence data to identify trends, issues and patterns of health and safety weaknesses.

To develop, changes to policies, procedures to improve health and safety performance and support implementation of any changes. 

Providing specialist advice to Board, SMT and Operational Managers on all issues relating to the management of Health & Safety. 

Assist the Managing Director/Directors in the development, review and delivery of the Health and Safety Strategy. 

To be an expert in the field of Occupational Safety and Health and its management. 

To ensure that effective fire safety management arrangements are in place for all areas where the organisation has fire safety management responsibility under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and that fire risk assessments are in place and reviewed as appropriate.

The Successful Applicant

Minimum 3 years experience in a Health and Safety management position, in a construction or maintenance related environments. 

Two years experience of Health and Safety management in a social/affordable housing organisation 

Experience of leading the development and implementation of organisational health and safety strategies and initiatives

Working effectively in cooperation with internal and external partners to deliver improvements in H/S culture and management. 

Demonstrate a high level of awareness associated with the management of H&S risks 

The ability to think strategically in relation to H&S management 

Experience of managing budgets. 

Involvement with emergency plan and incident management 

Working within or achieving accredited H/S management systems 

Experience of supervising technical and operational resources.        

Degree or appropriate professional qualification in Health & Safety 

Corporate Membership of IOSH or Chartered membership of IOSH 

Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
