Job Description

Wessex Water has in the region of 5000 land interests in the South West. The successful candidate will be responsible for acquiring new land for works and selling surplus land for development or amenity use as part of Wessex's regulated business. You will also deal with non-utility property work for YTL, whose interests in the UK include hotels and the exciting Bath Thermae Spa development. The work will be interesting and varied and will cover all aspects of property work (including some commercial property).
Reporting to the Group Head of Legal you will be responsible for:
  • Purchasing or leasing land required for schemes
  • Dealing with grant of easements in favour of the Company or granting easements over Company land to third parties
  • Sale or lease of surplus property
  • Overseeing the completion by the Agreements Assistant of sewer adoption agreements
  • Responsible for supervising the Legal Assistant
  • Working for demanding clients with tight deadlines to deliver access for Schemes
  • Keeping up to date with conveyancing practice, Land Registry rules and property law

The Successful Applicant

You will be a qualified solicitor or Member of the Institute of Legal Executives with several years experience of conveyancing and commercial property related transactions. Experience of working in house for a company, local authority or utility would be an advantage, but is not essential.
You will require good literacy, numeracy and communication skills. You will also have the ability to work with minimum supervision to perform duties in a prompt, accurate and efficient manner.
