About Our Client
Our client is a UK-wide provider of financial services, delivering award-winning levels of customer service to millions of retail and business customers across the UK. The successful candidate will be joining the client at an exciting time of change and provide expert, business focused legal advice, adding value whilst mitigating risk.
Delivering legal support across a wide range of commercial matters including drafting, negotiating and interpreting commercial contracts such as outsourcing contracts (including business process and IT outsourcing), supply contracts, marketing & distribution contracts and software licences;
Advising business units on IP, data protection and regulatory issues such as SYSC 8 outsourcing requirements;
Developing precedents and processes to improve efficiency's across the legal department and wider business;
Dealing with key stakeholders at all levels across the business (up to executive and board level), including the newly-established outsourced procurement team; and
Deputising for the line manager, as and when required, to preserve the continuity of commercial advice and support to the client's senior managers and executives.
Solicitors who have some experience of the above role and who may not have Financial Services experience should still contact our office to discuss this role and other In House roles in the North.
The Successful Applicant
A qualified solicitor with mid / senior level PQE gained from an in-house legal team or large commercial law firm;
Proven ability to draft lengthy, complex commercial contracts, frequently under the pressure of time;
Experience of outsourcing contracts including business process and IT outsourcing would be desirable;
Experience of working in the financial services sector (including dealing with regulators) would be an advantage;
Highly motivated and pro-active, with excellent attention to detail and ability to find sound commercial solutions to complex legal and commercial issues;
A well-developed sense of strategic/commercial drivers affecting transactions;
Articulate and persuasive communication skills, with an ability to adapt communication style whilst retaining professionalism and effectiveness; and
Ability to challenge without being perceived as a barrier to the business accomplishing its goals.
