About Our Client

My client is a leading independent secondary school facilitating all subjects. There are approximately 740 pupils and 350 staff.

Job Description

As the HR Manager you will be responsible for delivering a high quality operational HR service to the school. In addition you will hold the following responsibilities:

  • Providing advice and support to managers on any staff management issues including performance and absence management.
  • Managing disciplinary and grievance cases supporting line managers and investigating officers as necessary.
  • Providing oversight of the recruitment process, sitting on interview panels and advising line managers as necessary.
  • Providing information for payroll/accounts to ensure accurate payments to staff and service providers, taking account of HMRC requirements.
  • Working with payroll to ensure a good working relationship between the two departments, managing any issues as they arise.
  • Overseeing the issuing of all employment related documents including job offers, contracts of employment and service agreements.
  • Organising a programme of staff induction in conjunction with the Senior Management Team.
  • Managing the provision of staff benefits including pensions, childcare vouchers, medical insurance and life assurance. Ensure the correct documentation is returned to external bodies.
  • Keeping abreast of changing legislation and statutory requirements, advising senior management and updating school documentation as necessary.
  • Working with the Director of Resources to develop and implement HR policies and practices in line with good practice to support an effective working environment.
  • Providing data and information to the Senior Management Team and for statutory purposes including the annual census return, governors' reports and Office of National Statistics returns.
  • Ensuring compliance with the statutory safeguarding requirements including the provision of an accurate single central register.
  • Managing the HR database to ensure the provision of accurate information and optimal use of the functionality.
  • Managing the HR team to ensure high standards of delivery.
  • Liaising with the school's legal advisors on staff related issues including settlement agreements
  • Ensuring the Director of Resources is informed about staff related matters as necessary.

The Successful Applicant

As the HR Manager you will hold the following skills and experience:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent is essential
  • Chartered Member of CIPD - level 7 is essential
  • Sound and up-to-date knowledge of employment law and its practical application
  • Experience of working in an educational or charity environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the credibility to interact and influence at all levels
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with staff and managers
  • Ability to combine strategic thinking and planning with practical implementation
  • Ability to work on own initiative, to plan and prioritise
  • Ability to develop new systems and processes to improve efficiency
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • High standards of professionalism and integrity
