About Our Client

My client are a medium sized, prestigious and reputable top 15 law firm.

Job Description

As a member of the Group leadership team, the Group HRM will partner with the Group to provide HR support on all aspects of people management including delivery of the Group strategy, delivery of the HR strategy and appropriate operational responsibilities for senior members of the group. The Group HRM will establish and maintain influential relationships with the Group leadership team and ensure HR support is aligned to business needs and to the overall strategy of the firm. Working with the leadership team to design and implement HR strategy as appropriate, the Group HRM will also provide coaching, guidance and support on people issues. An ability to influence, challenge and provide robust views in a supportive manner will be key to this role. The Group HRM will be responsible for the management and development of 2 HR Advisors. As a team, the Group HR Manager and Advisors will ensure delivery of a pro-active HR service

Main duties and responsibilities

Implementation of strategy

  • Challenge, support and add value to the Group in pursuit of their objectives and overall business strategy.

Talent Management

  • Develop a talent management plan which aids the identification of high potential individuals and implements succession and retention plans e.g. developing a medium term partner pipeline plan.

Performance Management & Appraisals

  • In conjunction with the HRAs, ensure the annual performance appraisal process is completed in a timely and fair manner; facilitate Group wide moderation to ensure a robust and consistent distribution of ratings.

Management & Development of HR Advisor(s)

  • Provide line management to HR Advisor(s).


  • Working with the HRA, provide the Group with recruitment support, including ensuring all roles have appropriate candidate profiles, the Group is appropriately supported in recruitment decisions and recruitment excellence is maintained at all times.


  • Again, working closely with the HRA, provide Group leadership with assistance and guidance in respect of compensation and incentive planning.


  • Work with central L&D team to ensure that development programmes are relevant to Group needs and promoted accordingly.

Employee Relations

  • Champion the development of people management skills within the Group.

Commercial Awareness

  • Work with the Group leadership team in achieving efficiencies through business improvements.

HR Metric Analysis

  • Utilise available HR metrics to inform strategic and high level operational decisions.

The Successful Applicant

Relevant Experience

  • Significant HR Generalist experience at HR Manager level
  • Previous experience of managing and developing staff

Key Skills

  • Proven ability to influence, challenge and provide robust views in a supportive manner.
  • Proven ability to gain credibility at all levels quickly, and have excellent relationship management skills.
  • Ability to work as a genuine business partner.
  • Communication: Listening, questioning and conveying ideas, facts and opinions in clear and understandable terms.
  • Business Expertise: Understanding the business environment in which the Firm operates and considering the commercial and wider performance implications of decisions and actions.
  • Strong listening and problem solving skills
