Job Description

The Assistant Tax Manager will undertake advisory and compliance work within the Global Banking and Markets division across a range of complex tax affairs, including corporation tax, VAT, stamp duty and employment taxes. Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare year end corporation tax and deferred tax provisions for statutory accounts.
  • Provide quarterly and monthly tax charge information for consolidation purposes and local management information.
  • Liaising with external parties including auditors, external advisors and HMRC.
  • Ad hoc research and projects such as transfer pricing, legislative developments and international tax issues.
  • Build relationships with the wider Finance team and internal stakeholders, such as compliance, internal audit and HR
  • Preparation, submission and agreement of tax returns for UK branches and subsidiaries.
  • Manage the update of corporation tax procedures. Identification and improvements of internal controls.
  • Management and review of externally provided tax calculations for the Bank's Paris operations.
  • Review of monthly VAT reporting package (Group VAT return, Intrastat, EC sales list and EU VAT refunds).
  • Assist with preparation of VAT returns in Germany, Norway, Spain and other jurisdictions as necessary.
  • Dealing with any operational tax issues including withholding tax, treaty relief and tax reclaim documentation (including CoRs, W8 BEN-Es and market specific tax documentation)
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the business related tax laws of the overseas jurisdictions where GBM Europe operates.

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate will have:

  • Tax or accounting qualification (CTA, ACA, ACCA) essential together with a good understanding of UK tax legislation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a high degree of self-motivation.
  • Desire to build/enhance knowledge and experience of a greater variety of taxes, as well as general financial reporting and regulatory reporting areas.
  • Experience using systems; Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience of Financial Services or Banking tax issues an advantage but not essential.
