Founded in 1952 to ensure that disabled children had an equal right to education, Scope's aims, activities and geographical reach have since broadened significantly into a diverse range of services and fund raising activities;

  • £45.3m expenditure on the provision of special education, residential care and a range of other children and adult care services through 117 separate services.
  • £22.6m of income generating £4m of profit through 230 Scope charity shops
  • £19.3m of fund raising income generating £11.8m of profit from a diversified portfolio of voluntary fund raising activities.

Job Description

Scope is developing a new strategy for the next five years to help us achieve our vision of changing society.

This new role will be critical in supporting the Services division with detailed planning, financial modelling and delivery of the strategy in the Services division, while supporting the Services Senior Management Team (SSMT) to manage through a period of significant change, such that the services provided are managed to their authorised budgets whilst maintaining the required standards of care.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Services, the Interim Director of Finance - Services will

  • Ensure the Services directorate delivers its financial plan for the year
  • Planning and modelling the financial impact of implementation of the new strategy within Services, including the financial assessment and management of investment and other strategic decisions and management of the financial aspects of those decisions during implementation
  • Manage and anticipate the financial impact of operational and strategic decisions, supporting budget holders in the delivery of their financial plan for the year and in the planning and implementation of strategy
  • Deliver the reporting and financial risk management requirements of the Finance Director to meet financial risk management needs of Scope corporately.

In addition this role is a key support for the Director of Finance through the professional financial management of Services, and is expected to work closely with the Director of Finance to deliver the financial plan for Scope.

The Successful Applicant

This is a significant leadership role in Scope and will be responsible for enabling Scope to deliver its financial plan for Services and for delivering the financial model that supports the strategy.

We are looking for a Finance Director - Services who can lead through change, has experience of major asset investment and disposal transactions, can maintain a solid base of financial control and support budget holders to deliver their financial plans.

You must be a Qualified Accountant (ICAEW,ACCA,CIMA) with a strong technical background. Flexible and adaptable with an analytical and commercial approach, you must have the ability to work well under pressure and balance priorities to achieve deadlines.

Excellent communication skills with exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills are essential. You will be liaising with a number of contacts including internal leadership teams and external consultants, legal advisors, Local authorities, commissioners and regulatory bodies.

Our Services division operates through 120 separate services and is budgeted to spend £45.3m this financial year on the provision of special education, residential care and a range of other children and adult care services. Previous experience working with a similar range of services in the care sector is required.
