Job Description

You will be part of the IT Operations team responsible for managing all aspects of the IT Infrastructure - including Microsoft Windows Server platforms and related technologies (Server 2008, Exchange, Active Directory, Group Policy), SQL database, SAN (EMC & Eternus) storage, backup, archive, virtualisation (VMware), Citrix XenDesktop, Linux, secure printing, desktop infrastructure (including laptop operating system Gold builds & HP Thin Clients), voice and data networks (LAN / WAN / WiFi) - across the organisation including Disaster Recovery testing, patching, new deployments, upgrades and migrations.

  • IT system monitoring and reaction to critical & major alerts i.e. reacting positively and calmly to ensure the correct steps are taken for remedial action
  • Positively managing planned and unplanned downtime with the business both during operational hours and outside of operational hours
  • Managing and maintaining software licensing in order to keep compliant
  • Managing 3rd party suppliers to ensure service stability and availability
  • Recommending opportunities for improvement with a view to decreasing workload and/or cost
  • Sign off authority on technical changes that may have an impact on system stability and availability
  • Managing Disaster Recovery activities in the event of DR invocation
  • Responsible for ensuring we are secure from a technical perspective 24 x 7
  • Responsible for monitoring and decision making whilst 'on call'

  • In depth understanding of current IT infrastructure concepts and technologies with the proven ability to implement and support

      • WIFI
    • Anti-virus (Symantec)
    • Disaster Recovery testing
    • New deployments, upgrades, migrations and patching
  • Professional qualifications and/or demonstrable experience relating to the technologies above
  • Must have worked in, or had experience of working with IT hosting providers or managed service providers
  • Problem solving and decision making under pressure
  • Able to provide technical guidance in the design and ongoing support of project related change
  • Work with and partner closely with the wider IT Team, in particular the infrastructure operations team and Project team
  • Work with and partner closely with 3rd party IT service providers
  • Demonstrate effective planning and time management skills
  • Strong ability to multi-task and manage varying priorities.
  • Adhere to strict documentation governance related to the role
  • Ability to work independently with little management direction
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills at all levels
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to create clear and effective reports both scheduled and adhoc
  • Ability to discuss complex technical issues and concepts to the wider business in a simple straightforward manner
  • Able to accommodate a rota based 'on call' service

What's on Offer
