Job Description

This role will involve drafting, negotiating and advising on a wide range of commercial contracts to support The Company's business and back-office functions. Strong commercial contracts experience is essential. Work is likely to involve:

  • Assisting with drafting, negotiating and advising on The Company customer contracts (e.g. with pharma companies, NHS bodies and PMI providers) and supporting The Company on new tenders; procurement contracts, confidentiality agreements.
  • Keep up-to-date with legal developments; assess impact of changes in applicable law on The Company and ensure business understands any commercial implications.
  • Assist Head of Legal with company secretarial matters to ensure The Company maintains high standards of corporate governance.
  • Helping to train sales teams on key legal issues/legal drafting/negotiation skills.
  • Assisting with the resolution of any customer complaints escalated to legal and on the duty of candour.
  • Supporting strategic business initiatives from a legal perspective (e.g. assisting Finance/Accounts Payable on initiative to recover outstanding debt).
  • Update and develop legal policies and processes as appropriate.

The Successful Applicant

  • Training at well regarded law firm and/or in an in-house role. A general commercial lawyer of approximately NQ-3yrs PQE is expected to be suitable for this role, but candidates outside this range will be considered.
  • In-depth understanding of commercial law for the PQE level (including data protection law, IP/IT, competition law, UK/EU public sector procurement).
  • Advising and negotiating NHS standard contracts and exposure to the healthcare sector and NHS clients is desirable.
  • Excellent negotiating and drafting skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of business drivers, confident with a high level of responsibility and accountability, and comfortable assessing and accepting risk is essential.
