Job Description

As legal counsel you will undertake contract drafting and negotiation for project driven business including fixed price end deliverable contracts as well as other generalist commercial work in an international context.

The Successful Applicant

Pre-requisites for this Legal Counsel Position:

- Commercial lawyer with current practicing certificate, at least 5yrs PQE, which should include at least 2 years in house.

- A candidate with commercial awareness, with a proven experience of working under pressure to tight deadlines who is confident and effective in negotiations. The successful candidate will have a flexible approach and ability to apply legal principles to a wide range of projects and delivery models.

- Experience of public procurement (UK and/or global) and tendering procedures and documents used to develop and then deliver a successful bid e.g. teaming agreements, NDAs. HOTs, subcontracts joint venture agreements and project agreements.

- Understanding and experience of commercial legal issues including indemnities, warranties, liability caps, data protection, termination rights, IT and software licensing, intellectual property rights and procurement, supply chain, consultancy and the provision of services on an international basis.

- The ability to communicate legal concepts and issues to non-lawyers effectively

- Demonstrable experience of operating in varied cultural environments .

Desirable, but not a pre-requisite

- experience in other fields of law:

  • Employment
  • Property
  • Data Protection
  • IT/IP
  • Anti-bribery and corruption (both UK and global) legislation

- Fluency in a widely spoken foreign language

- Track record of work in less developed countries

- Experience of dealing with aid funding or similar organisations such as World Bank, other Development Banks, DFID, USAID, MCC etc.
