Job Description

License Compliance Counsel, EMEA will be redirecting and supervising the strategy of varied types of License Compliance (anti-piracy) matters in Europe, the Middle East and Africa on behalf of the company.

  • Manage and oversee outside counsel providing the company with License Compliance enforcement and program services including the development of case strategy, litigation plans, case budgets, cost management, and procuring the early resolution of cases through settlement as appropriate.
  • Support, develop, implement and oversee the company's License Compliance programs in EMEA, including:
    • devising License Compliance campaign strategies
    • leading enforcement, legalization and anti-piracy efforts
    • manage and interact with sales channel in relation to intellectual property rights enforcement issues
    • support software audit programs
    • work with a team of License Compliance sales representatives
    • manage license compliance-related escalations
  • Represent interests in EMEA by participating in relevant Business Software Alliance committee meetings
  • Coordinate and work with national enforcement authorities in criminal enforcement matters for intellectual property related crimes.
  • Counsel business group, executives and other members of senior management with respect to License Compliance matters.
  • Collaborate with U.S. based colleagues to develop an identify theft and cloud services abuse strategy.
  • Coordinate compliance with data protection and security requirements in connection with LC activities.
  • As a member of the worldwide Legal Department, help ensure effective communication and coordination of License Compliance enforcement policies and efforts worldwide

Represent EMEA in WW License Compliance practice group.

The Successful Applicant

Suitable License Compliance Counsel, EMEA candidates:

  • Strong IP litigation or general litigation experience (in-house or in a law firm), preferably in the software/information technology industry.
  • A law degree from a well-respected university.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload independently.
  • Ability to formulate creative, practical legal and business solutions and to play strong, positive roles on multiple business management teams with minimal supervision will be critical.
  • Proven sound judgment with good communication and multicultural interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to manage support staff and outside legal counsel in diverse legal and cultural environments.
  • Willingness to travel.
