About Our Client

Our client are a global manufacturing business who offer great opportunities to develop and progress. Based in Wiltshire they are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager to join their busy team

Job Description

  • Responsibility for all aspects of manufacturing engineering to support the high mix low volume production of equipment in the UK
  • Leadership and continuous professional development of a team of approximately 25 engineers
  • Provision of production engineering, process engineering, test engineering and product support covering a range of technology including electrical, electronic and electromechanical disciplines
  • Responsibility for suppler selection and specification of capital equipment for manufacturing with a budget of approximately £1m per annum
  • Maintenance of all plant and equipment. Preventative maintenance planning for the factory to maximize OEE. Management of suppliers who provide specialist support services for the calibration, repair and servicing of production tooling and equipment
  • Provision of work methods, tooling and consumables to the shop floor. Training and assessment of factory operators and technicians. Responsibility for production engineering data on the manufacturing ERP system (SAP)
  • Development of test engineering strategy based on product design specifications and work with the R&D team globally to agree manufacturing test procedures to optimize test coverage and production efficiency. Provision of diagnostic tools for utilization in a production environment and expert engineering support to troubleshoot test issues
  • Design and support of manufacturing test hardware and software. Training of manufacturing technicians and test operators. Design and commissioning of bespoke test solutions for internal and external customers globally
  • Contribute to continuous improvement using lean manufacturing methodology
  • Management of the engineering database including engineering change control for all purchased and manufactured parts (approximately 160,000). Responsibility for the engineering interface to the manufacturing ERP system (SAP)
  • Accountability for product life cycle management supporting typical customer demand of 40 years and over. Active obsolescence management to assure continuity of supply
  • Design authority responsibility for all legacy products
  • Lead the investigation of product reliability issues working closely with external clients globally and internal design teams to resolve technical issues affecting product performance
  • Provide support to the supply chain team to source material through the assessment of potential suppliers and the provision of tooling and engineering expertise

The Successful Applicant

The successful Manufacturing Engineeering Manager will have:

  • Successful track record in a manufacturing engineering management role (essential)
  • Excellent IT skills with experience working with engineering life cycle management software and MRP/ERP systems (essential)
  • Previous leadership experience in a technical management role (essential)
  • Experience working in a high mix, low volume, safety critical manufacturing environment (essential)
  • An engineering degree or equivalent qualification
  • Knowledge of CAD systems, databases, LabVIEW and C++
