About Our Client

My client is a leading multi-national retailer based in West Yorkshire. They are a market leader across numerous brands and are currently recruiting a Merchandise Manager to lead their premium brand.

Job Description

The Merchandise Manager is instrumental in commercial decision making enabling the category to

achieve sales and shipment targets.

Responsible for building compelling range frameworks to achieve Category KPI's through excellent line

level forecasts & trading analysis.

Delivering agreed sales and inventory metrics to support category growth & profit

Providing Category teams with performance insights to inform future decisions.

What are you accountable for achieving?

Responsible for the creation of sub cat trading strategy and implementation of the Category strategy.

Delivering a product offer that exceeds consumer expectation, achieves sales and profit targets

through effective supply management.

Robust plans underpinned by timely and accurate analysis throughout each season

What are you responsible for doing?

Responsible for Category level planning of stock, sales and profit targets in line with agreed Category plans.

Using the IBP framework and WSSI to deliver visibility of rolling forecasts

Responsible for building robust seasonal sales and stock plans to achieve AOP and Retail sales targets.

Owns Sub cat mix and forward forecast accuracy

Sharing implementation assumptions with relevant stakeholders and reporting against defined performance metrics. Working alongside category and finance teams to create phasing plans for shipments and sales. Continuously monitor market activity for opportunities scoped within trading cycle.

Presenting range reviews for senior management sign offs.

Evaluation of planning mechanics through lessons learnt process

Identification of in season markdown in conjunction with Outlet/Ecom team & proposal for IDL

Delivering 98% launch availability through collaborative relationships

Terminal stock reduction & management

Agreeing intake with supply chain & updating assumptions based on latest data to deliver on shelf availability & replenishment in line with KPI's

Influencing category targets to drive performance and maximize stock health with a balanced, commercial and profitable range build.

Managing the intake of stock in line with agreed stock levels & continuity.

Quantification of OTB with phased seasonal flexibility

Capitalise on space throughout the estate: respond to trends, format trading and demographic profiles.

Responsible for accuracy of stock declarations, JDE updates & OTB at Range level

Owns sales by format to deliver performance across the estate as defined within the strategy. Ensuring retail estate run rate assumptions are used for latest IBP input, using and updating the WSSI to support actions and outputs

Champion for clear, concise communication that is understood at all levels across the business. Using communication skills to inspire collaborative working and succession planning. Forming relationships across the business to ensure KPIs are fully recognised and delivered.

Managing performance of the team; setting objectives, providing regular timely feedback & addressing poor performance.

Providing training ,development & coaching in core technical skills

Encourage an environment of open communication and building effective cross functional relationships.

What technical knowledge do you need?





What technical knowledge do you need?

  • Minimum degree level/equivalent diploma



Minimum 5 years experience in a leadership role

Experience of running own department

Fully conversant with standard business desktop applications

  • Minimum standard of intermediate Microsoft Excel
